Seminar on causes, current treatments presented by Superior Health Solutions

HENDERSON, Nev.Whole Foods will host the Lupus and Autoimmune Disorders Seminar, presented by Dr. Robert DeMartino, DC of Superior Health Solutions, on Oct. 16. Free to the public, the seminar takes place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Whole Foods Henderson, located at 100 S. Green Valley Parkway, in the east section of The District at Green Valley Ranch.

The seminar will discuss the latest advances in lupus and autoimmune disease research, with a focus on who is at risk, possible contributing factors and causes, and new techniques that seek to mitigate problems associated with commonly prescribed treatments.

“Traditional lupus treatments involved suppressing the immune system, but this leaves patients susceptible to pathogens,” DeMartino said. “New management methods being pioneered in Nevada are eliminating that risk, while still proving to be just as effective at managing lupus.”

As one of the most increasingly diagnosed autoimmune diseases in the United States today, lupus now affects an estimated 1.5 million Americans, with the vast majority being women. The disease is characterized by the immune system’s inability to recognize healthy tissue, so antibodies attack not only pathogens, but healthy tissue as well. Though there are several varieties of the disease; the most common are systematic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and discoid lupus. While autoimmune diseases like lupus affect the entire body, more specific types like SLE cause a disease of the joints, mucous membranes and connective tissues of the body.

“Lupus sufferers can experience chronic pain,” DeMartino said. “Often, it can be debilitating, affecting every aspect of their lives. Our mission is to help those people regain their lives by reducing that pain and making the disease more manageable.”

DeMartino’s work with the local lupus community is extensive, so much so that the non-profit organization Lupus of Nevada, LLC is located in Superior Health Solutions’ office, located at 1661 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, Ste. 280, in Henderson.

“By working with Lupus of Nevada, we’ve been able to change many lives,” DeMartino said. “But there are many people who don’t even realize they have the disease, and it’s important to spread the word about this often misunderstood and under-reported disease.”

Superior Health Solutions brings diagnostic testing, multiple doctor evaluations and personal care under one roof. The difference is Superior Health Solutions takes the natural approach to diagnosing and solving patients’ maladies instead of the traditional medical approach. The clinic is the brainchild of Dr. Robert DeMartino, who leads the clinic in evaluating a patient’s needs, discussing findings and creating the most comprehensive care plan possible to achieve the quickest and most permanent results.
