Business by the Book series will open April 17 with seminar on market research
LAS VEGAS – Launched in April of 2012 by UNLV Libraries, Business by the Book is an innovative business information workshop series that offers a combination of technology, expertise and personal touch. Now in its second year, the free, comprehensive resource boosts business-planning efforts for the small- to medium-size businesses community.
The first workshop in the four-part series, “Demystifying Your Customer: Market Research Made Easy” is scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at UNLV’s Lied Library, located at 4505 S. Maryland Parkway in Las Vegas.
Presented by business librarian Patrick Griffis, the workshop will cover research tools for market trend identification. The workshop will include networking opportunities from 6 to 6:30 p.m., with the presentation beginning thereafter. The event is free to the public and will include refreshments and food. Each workshop is taught at the introductory level; however, basic computer skills are necessary.
“The goal of the series is to introduce the business community to the free, comprehensive resources available through UNLV Libraries,” said Griffis. “We ultimately hope to boost business-planning efforts for small- to medium-size businesses and provide a gateway to business information for small firms and entrepreneurs who may not realize this information is available to them.”
The workshop is the first of the 2013 series, with future topics including:
- June 19: “Getting to Know Your Customer,” which will teach attendees how to use research tools to learn more about customers and in turn use this data to maximize marketing budgets.
- Aug. 14: “Marketing Resources Revealed,” which will demonstrate the advertising tools that work best to reach a specific target market.
- Oct. 16: “Social Media Simplified,” which will focus on optimizing a business’ web presence.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP no later than one week prior to each event by calling 702-895-2286 or emailing bookit@unlv.edu.
