Amateur Rib Cook Off May 21 to name Nevada’s grilling guru
LAS VEGAS – UNLV Athletics will host an Amateur Rib Cook Off Saturday, May 21, at the Orleans Hotel & Casino – located at 4500 W. Tropicana Ave. west of Interstate 15. Proceeds from the cook off will support the Rebel Athletic Fund.
Held during the $125,000 Orleans USA Barbecue Championship, the UNLV Ribba-Ramma is an amateur competition created especially for the weekend warrior and backyard griller.
During the competition, each team will prepare three racks of ribs. Three bones are turned in for judging and the remainder will be offered to attendees who present UNLV Donor Cards.
Set up will take place from 7-9 a.m. on May 21. Judging will happen at 3 p.m. and audience sampling will take place 4-6 p.m. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m.
Teams can register to take part in the Ribba-Ramma for $75, which includes three racks of ribs, one bag of competition charcoal and one bag of VooDoo rub & spices. For more information or to register online visit us at www.smokeonthewaterbbq.com. Deadline for registration is May 10.
First prize winners will receive two pairs (four tickets total) of season tickets for the 2011-2012 football season, four authentic Rebel football jerseys and one single game tailgate spot.
Second place winners will receive two pairs (four tickets total) of season tickets for the 2011-2012 football season and four authentic Rebel football jerseys.
Third place winners will receive one pair (two tickets total) of season tickets for the 2011-2012 football season.
