Intro to computers, Internet safety still popular programs for adult learners
HENDERSON, Nev. – Learning about the basics of e-mailing and surfing the Internet used to be enough knowledge to help even the most computer-challenged person get online, but with the surge of social media it’s almost impossible to understand it all without a little help.
Henderson Libraries has offered introduction to computers, adult computer classes and Internet safety for a couple of years, but now they’ve expanded their offerings to include social media. Twitter Basics and Blogging Basics, classes that both target online social media Web sites, aim to teach new users how to post entries, follow other users and interact with people using Twitter.com and WordPress.com.
Blogging Basics offered at the Gibson Library – located at 280 S. Water Street in Downtown Henderson – from 9-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13. Twitter Basics, an adults-only course is also offered at the Gibson Library from 9-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20.
More classes offered at the Gibson Library during April include: Internet Safety for Your Child on Monday, April 26, from 7-7:45 p.m. and Introduction to Computers on Thursdays from 9-10:30 a.m. All classes are free and open to the public.
The Malcolm Library – located at 2960 Sunridge Heights near Seven Hills Drive – also holds adult computer classes every Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Beginning E-mail is offered on April 15. Advanced E-mail will be offered on April 22. All classes require registration and are limited to five participants. The classes are free and open to the public.
Other courses that rotate through the schedule at various Henderson Libraries locations include Online Shopping!, E-mail Basics and a course on using gmail, Google’s e-mail server.
