Store manager becomes owner of Simple Computer Repair franchise

Justin Souza, 31, purchased southwest location as franchise on April 1

LAS VEGAS – Justin Souza was employed as the manager at Simple Computer Repair at Fort Apache Road and Tropicana Avenue when owner Jim Brock approached him with an offer – to buy the already successfully established business as a franchise location.

“I thought about it for little while. I sat down and talked to Jim. I thought about it some more,” said Souza, 31. “He said he would hold my hand through the whole process.”

On April 1, the purchased was finalized and Souza officially received his promotion to owner of the southwest location, 5130 S. Fort Apache Road, Ste. 263. Brock said the decision to first approach possible franchisees in house was a calculated one.

“Justin’s going to learn the financial side quicker than someone else would learn the technical and operational side,” Brock said. “Fortunately, Justin already knows how to repair computers.”

Brock set up the exchange for success. Simple Computer Repair headquarters, located at 1000 N. Green Valley Parkway in Henderson, uses the same bookkeeper and Brock’s wealth of knowledge is at Souza’s fingertips.

“It’s the perfect incubator for going from manager to owner,” Brock said. “We have to support our franchisees. Someone always needs help somewhere.”

To date, not including the southwest location, Simple Computer Repair has three franchise locations: Avondale, Arizona; Macomb, Michigan and Staten Island, New York, which is scheduled to open soon.

Souza, whose background is in computers and running skate parks, always wanted to own his own business. When he came to work at Simple Computer Repair two years ago, he found customer service was the key to the business’ success.

“Our main focus is customer service. Any model that focuses on that is going to succeed,” Souza said. “It builds your customer base and the word of mouth; 25 percent of my customer base at the Tropicana store is by word of mouth.”

Aside from repair of all makes and models of desktops and laptops, the store also repairs iPhones, iPads and iPods and their screens, game consoles and flat screen TVs. The retail side of the store sells accessories – from earbud headphones to phone and tablet cases.

Souza said he is grateful for the extra help, and Brock said he believes more people would buy franchises if they had such a support system.

“It should be normal practice, in my opinion,” Brock added. “It should be a priority to help the franchisees.”

Simple Computer Repair opened in 2008 and provides repair services for all makes and models of desktops and laptops, Apple iPhones, iPads and iPods; game consoles and flat screen TVs. There are two locations in the Las Vegas area, including the southwest location, a franchise, at 5130 S. Fort Apache Road, Ste. 263 and the company headquarters in Henderson at 1000 N. Green Valley Parkway. In 2013, Simple Computer Repair opened its first franchise in Arizona at 13050 W. Rancho Santa Fe #B-5 in Avondale, near Phoenix, and the Michigan location at 50480 Schoenherr Road in Macomb, near Lake St. Clair, followed at the beginning of 2014.
