Local 88 to participate in events to educate, highlight program benefits Nov. 12-13
Sheet Metal Workers Local 88 will participate in two events to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, which is commemorated nationwide Nov. 12-18, including an apprenticeship fair at the College of Southern Nevada and an open house at Local 88’s training center. The events are meant to share information about apprenticeship programs and educate the community about the benefits of a sheet metal apprenticeship.
The College of Southern Nevada event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13 at the West Charleston Campus, 6375 W. Charleston Blvd.
The open house will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 at the Sheet Metal Workers Local 88 Training Center, 2540 Marco St. in northeast Las Vegas. During the open house, educators will lead facility tours and provide information to visiting high school seniors, families, high school counselors and anyone interested in the benefits of a sheet metal apprenticeship.
National Apprenticeship Week was created in 2015 to tell the story of apprenticeships and invite business and industry, education, career seekers, community-based organizations, students and workers to learn about the real world advantages of this form of higher education.
More than 14,000 sheet metal apprentices are registered at over 150 union sheet metal training facilities across the United State and Canada. Those who participate in sheet metal apprenticeships across the country often graduate debt-free with a career and living wage generally well above that of their college or university counterparts.
Apprenticeships from all trades will have an opportunity to share information at the College of Southern Nevada with local community partners, school counselors and other attendees who may be interested in learning more about their programs and how to contribute to Southern Nevada’s future growth and employment.
