Mayor Hafen, MIX 94.1’s Mercedes to host “Light up the Night” event at 7 p.m.
NORTH POLE – Henderson’s kids better watch out; they’d better not cry; they’d better not pout – Santa’s due to arrive.
Santa Claus is coming to the Galleria at Sunset’s center court at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8.
City of Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen will join the Galleria at Sunset, 1300 W. Sunset Road, for “Light up the Night” an event welcoming Santa and unveiling the new holiday light show. Mercedes from 94.1 will MC the festivities, which are free and open to the public.
The new décor will include a musical light show, Light Up the Night, which will “perform” every evening on the hour from 5p.m. to close throughout the holiday season.
The new spectacular holiday décor package at Galleria at Sunset will boast over 54,000 lights. It also includes an area for Santa that could have been taken right out of The Nutcracker. The set has a classical toy approach that takes on a larger-than-life proportion. It features a 10-foot seated toy soldier, a 15-foot inflatable plush teddy bear, a 40-foot Christmas tree and an extra wide chair for Santa.
The displays will feature more than 10.3 miles of copper wire and a sound system that will ensure all can enjoy the more than 2,000 watts of holiday music. Light Up the Night operates on the typical power available in any U.S. home and takes almost two weeks to program by hand. The Galleria’s programmers’ mice travel more than three miles to program the show.
The Galleria at Sunset opened in 1996 and is anchored by Macy’s, JCPenney, Dillard’s, Kohl’s and Dick’s Sporting Goods. It features retailers such as H&M, Coach, bebe, Buckle, Forever 21, Abercrombie & Fitch, Victoria’s Secret, Brookstone and more. Owned and operated by Forest City Enterprises, the 1,048,000-square-foot regional shopping center is the only enclosed mall in Henderson and one of the largest in Southern Nevada. In addition to retail, the Galleria at Sunset boasts two full-service and 11 fast food restaurants.
