New Southern Nevada medical facility brings ‘Star Trek-like medicine’ to residents

State-of-the-art, non-invasive medical procedures changing local health care scene

HENDERSON, Nev. When science fiction’s medical icon, Dr. Leonard McCoy, travelled back to 1986 to help Captain Kirk save the world, he was appalled at mankind’s primitive medicine. In fact, leaving their shipmate, Chekov, in the hands of 20th century doctors was like “dealing with medievalism!” If only he had visited 26 years later.

With the Aug. 11 grand opening of Superior Health Solutions, Nevada has taken a step into the future of medicine as well. Its opening saw the local introduction of advanced forms of medical equipment, next-generation devices which, in many cases, do away with the need for “medieval” procedures such as surgery.

“Surgery is often the last resort in medicine. It’s invasive, always carries risk and can sometimes cause more harm than good,” said Dr. Robert DeMartino, treating doctor for Superior Health Solutions and the visionary who helped bring the facility to Southern Nevada. “But, it’s been the best option modern medicine has been able to come up with, until now.”

Some of the most significant technology being employed at the center is what’s known as frequency specific microcurrent, a procedure that enhances cellular regeneration abilities by increasing the amount of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production in cells. Through the use of specific frequencies, ATP production — which is used by cells for energy production — has been shown to increase by up to 500 percent in some cases. These frequencies, not unlike those perhaps used by a Star Trek-like medical tricorder, also help to increase protein synthesis and amino acid transport, effectively increasing tissue healing rates on a cellular level.

“This technology is really changing how medicine is done,” DeMartino said. “We can now target specific parts of the body and help it heal without having to cut into it first. If you had told me 10 years ago that this would have been possible today, I wouldn’t have believed it. But, the last decade has seen amazing advances, including a complete sequencing of the human genome, targeted cancer therapy and integration of advanced information technology in medicine. This procedure was simply a logical step few of us could really foresee, and now it’s a reality for this community.”

In addition to frequency specific microcurrent, the clinic is also unveiling other state-of-the-art services that perhaps Dr. McCoy didn’t even anticipate. Quantum neurology and vibration therapy are both fields that are helping revolutionize treatment of serious conditions. In quantum neurology, damaged nerve functions are restored through a combination of gold standard testing, exacting evaluation and well-focused corrections. Whereas vibration therapy, until now mostly used by athletes on rigorous training regimens, is used to help the healing process after an injury by targeting hormonal inequalities and by boosting human growth hormone levels.

But, though modern-day equipment might not yet rival that of a Star Trek, DeMartino says it’s only a matter of time.

“Health care is seeing a growing interest in non-invasive medicine,” DeMartino said. “Last year we saw the X Prize Foundation and Qualcomm team up to fund the $10 million prize for a working model of a Star Trek medical tricorder. Lots of skeptics are saying it can’t be done, but then there were many skeptics of the Ansari X Prize, and we now have a private space industry born from that endeavor.”

Superior Health Solutions is located at 1661 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, Ste. 280, in Henderson, and is open from 8 a.m. to noon and 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, and 8 a.m. to noon Friday.

Superior Health Solutions brings diagnostic testing, multiple doctor evaluations and personal care under one roof. The difference is Superior Health Solutions takes the natural approach to diagnosing and solving patients’ maladies instead of the traditional medical approach. The clinic is the brainchild of Dr. Robert DeMartino, who leads the clinic in evaluating a patient’s needs, discussing findings and creating the most comprehensive care plan possible to achieve the quickest and most permanent results.
