Fay honored in Henderson Jan. 5, award given for exemplifying library excellence
HENDERSON, Nev. – The Nevada Library Association has named Tom Fay, executive director for Henderson Libraries, Librarian of the Year.
The award is given for making constructive accomplishments toward the advancement and extension of library service and the development of sound library policies; creative and effective interpretation of the library on a regional, local or national level.
Notable activity in library legislation, recruitment, statewide planning, published writings, outstanding participation in NLA, ALA, MPLA, Friends of the Library; a broadened scope of service to the community, specialized services to children, young adults, senior citizens, the handicapped, etc.; and an outstanding contribution to library education, library techniques, library building, library management, establishment or organization of a new library or library system, or expansion and revitalization of an established library system or library are all looked at when choosing a Librarian of the Year.
Fay will be honored at the Henderson City Council meeting Tuesday, Jan. 5. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Henderson City Hall – located at 240 Water St. in Downtown Henderson.
Fay took the helm of Henderson Libraries as executive director in 2004 after more than two decades of experience working in Nevada libraries.
Before accepting the position of executive director, Fay served Henderson Libraries as an information technology manager and eventually assistant director of operations.
Active in the community, Fay currently serves on several boards, including the city of Henderson’s Redevelopment Advisory Commission and the Nevada State College President’s Advisory Council. Fay was the class speaker for Leadership Henderson class of 2004 and is a member of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce. He is also the past president of the Henderson Civitan Club and past president of the Nevada Library Association.
