Leadership Henderson helps blind/visually impaired youth through Biddin’ for Bottles donation

Funds were raised with a silent auction, live auction, wine sponsorships, basket bids, ticket sales

HENDERSON, Nev. – Local blind and visually impaired students will receive a boost in free educational and adapted recreational programs and services thanks to the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Leadership Henderson program, which selected the Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation as the beneficiary of over $12,000 raised during its annual Biddin’ for Bottles event.

The foundation will present a check to the Blind Children’s Foundation at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at the DragonRidge Country Club, 552 S. Stephanie St.

Free programs and services that will be supported by the donation include one-on-one tutoring, spring break and summer day camps, Girl and Boy Scout troops, and a literacy program called Booktime Buddies.

“Our partnership with Leadership Henderson not only yielded a financial gift, but allowed NBCF the opportunity to share our mission with Henderson residents and attendees of the Biddin’ for Bottles event,” said Leslie Jones, NBCF Development Director. “It’s important to spread the word about these underserved children and the need to provide educational support so that they can graduate with a regular diploma, attend higher education or join the work force, and be productive members of society.”

Money was raised for the donation through a silent auction, a live auction, wine sponsorships, basket bids and ticket sales. Additional funds raised went toward the continual running of Leadership Henderson, a program under the nonprofit Henderson Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

The Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation applied to become the Leadership Henderson program’s Biddin’ for Bottles nonprofit partner at the encouragement of Biddin’ for Bottles co-chair Lisa Drake, who has been involved with the organization for quite some time. The nonprofit was ultimately chosen by a committee.
