Program focuses on developing local leaders, provides 30-plus hours of training

HENDERSON, Nev. – The Henderson Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Leadership Henderson program is now accepting applications for its 2015 class.

Designed as a program of exploration and examination, Leadership Henderson examines issues, asks critical questions and strives to provide answers that do not conform to the status quo. The program lasts eight months and is dedicated to educating and empowering civic-minded professionals with a goal of building and maintaining a strong network of effective community leaders.

Leadership Henderson includes panel presentations by community leaders and experts and also features simulations and hands-on experiences that teach participants about current issues pertaining to local economy, government, social services, health, gaming, business and education that affect Henderson residents and businesses.

The selection process focuses on choosing acknowledged and aspiring leaders based on abilities, potential and demonstrated leadership experience. The chosen participants then undergo more than 30 hours of professional leadership development by Elements Consulting.

The opening session consists of a two-day retreat that serves as an overall introduction. Activities focus on developing strong working relationships among participants, identifying and evaluating the characteristics of leadership, and distinguishing each participant’s leadership style. The program then continues with monthly sessions, which are held for a full day on the first Friday of every month at various locations throughout the community. Monthly sessions consist of panel discussions, lectures, community tours and interactive exercises, including face-to-face discussions with top-level business, civic and governmental leaders.

Tuition for the program is $2,000 for chamber members and $2,500 for non-members.

Applications are available online at leadershiphenderson.com. Completed applications should be sent to rfay@hendersonchamber.com or Leadership Henderson c/o Henderson Chamber of Commerce at 590 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, Nev. 89015. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Friday, July 25.

Leadership Henderson is governed by the Henderson Chamber Foundation Board and guided by a steering committee. The majority of the participants have been identified and recruited by alumni of the program and all were chosen through a selective application and interview process.
