Kids with cancer to have some fun with small party Sept. 20

Candlelighters, Galleria at Sunset, Build-A-Bear team together to Shine Gold as part of Galleria at Sunset’s 20th anniversary

As part of its ongoing 20th anniversary celebration and as a participant of the Candlelighters’ Shine Gold initiative, the Galleria at Sunset will host a special event at Build-a-Bear.

Selected by Candlelighters, 10 kids who have cancer will attend a party from 4 – 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Build-A-Bear at the Galleria at Sunset, 1300 West Sunset Road. Each kid will receive a bear of his/her choice, one clothing item and a drawstring backpack for the bear. The children will also receive a special heart ceremony for their bears as well as a light-up cupcake keepsake.

Additionally, the Galleria at Sunset and Build-a-Bear will donate 20 additional bears to Candlelighters to be given to children with cancer who have just completed chemotherapy. The organization hosts “No More Chemo” parties to help children recovering from the treatments.

As part of the Galleria’s 20th anniversary celebration, the general public will receive $5 off a Build-a-Bear purchase on that day.

The Galleria also made a donation to the Shine Gold initiative of $1,500 in advertising to help raise awareness of the needs, opportunities and challenges that face children with cancer as well as their families.
