Event to benefit Henderson Chamber Foundation, Veterans Treatment Court
HENDERSON, Nev. – The Henderson Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Veterans Treatment Court of Henderson will host the inaugural Chipping in for Vets Golf Tournament, which will raise funds to benefit both organizations, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Chimera Golf Club at Tuscany, 901 Olivia Parkway in Henderson.
Registration and a continental breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start in a four-person scramble format at 8:30 a.m. Lunch and an awards presentation will take place at 1 p.m. Cost for individual players is $175, $650 for a team of four.
“Taking care of our veterans is a priority in this city and in this community,” said Bill Bokelmann, Henderson Chamber of Commerce Foundation manager. “We hope the proceeds from this event will help the Foundation as well as raise funds and awareness for the Veterans Treatment Court. They provide such a valuable service to our veterans in this community, and more veterans need to be aware and take advantage of the support they offer.”
Established in 2011 by Henderson Municipal Judge Mark Stevens, Veterans Treatment Court helps rehabilitate veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or traumatic brain injury (TBI) who have been charged with a misdemeanor crime. Participants who volunteer for the one-year program are referred by their attorney, the prosecuting attorney or other courts and are matched with a fellow veteran who serves as a mentor.
“These veterans come back home and have a tough time adjusting to life outside of the military,” Stevens said. “Through my own service and experience, I understand some of their challenges and work closely with a team of dedicated professionals to get them the help they need.”
There will be great raffle items available. Those interested in golfing, sponsoring or donating to either charity can contact Bokelmann at 702-209-3967 or bbokelmann@hendersonchamber.com.
