ICSC announces winners in its annual U.S. MAXI awards

Galleria at Sunset receives award for its It’s A Gas Program

HENDERSON, Nev. – In keeping with its tradition of recognizing and honoring the premier marketing, community outreach, sales promotion, and visual merchandizing efforts within the U.S. retail real estate industry, the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) presented the Galleria at Sunset, Henderson, Nev., with a silver U.S. MAXI Award. All winners represented the highest caliber of marketing excellence and exemplify collaboration, execution and achievement within the retail real estate industry.

The 2012 ICSC U.S. MAXI Awards honor and recognize the premier marketing, community outreach, sales promotions and visual merchandizing programs undertaken solely with the U.S by U.S.-based retail real estate professionals and companies. These awards not only enhance and compliment the other industry regional award programs offered by ICSC but provide information and insight to the entire retail real estate industry on what it takes to achieve the highest level of recognition in marketing and specialty leasing within the U.S. [Editor’s note: Visit our website for additional information on this center or for a complete listing of all winners.]

With this cause-related marketing campaign, the Galleria at Sunset provided the yet-to-be-built Henderson Space & Science Center a temporary home and developed a traveling exhibit called “It’s a Gas! The Bright Side of Science.” Using a vacant space at the center, the professionally staffed traveling exhibition included 4,000 square feet of interactive displays, live demonstrations, one of a kind works of art, and classic neon signs in a darkened gallery. The exhibit was toured by over 5,800 visitors and earned $14,000 in ticket sales. In addition, publicity efforts raised over $15,000 with in kind sponsorship donations totalling almost $137,000, allowing kids in the community to reach for the stars.

Professional recognition for this award was given to Heather Valera, marketing director for the Galleria at Sunset, as well as the professionals from Forest City Commercial Management – Jane Lisy, senior vice president of marketing, and Paulette Caputo, vice president of retail marketing.
