New facility caters to 50 and older community
HENDERSON, Nev. – In the last year, Henderson Libraries saw great expansion with the addition of three new and remodeled locations including the Green Valley Library, the Galleria Library in the Galleria at Sunset mall and the Heritage Park Library.
The Heritage Park Library – located in the Senior Facility at Heritage Park on Racetrack Road just off Burkholder Drive – opens for self service Monday, Jan. 25, and will cater to the 50 and older community. The library district partnered with the City of Henderson’s Parks and Recreation Department to create the hybrid facility. The grand opening for the entire Senior Facility is Saturday, Jan. 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The library will be staffed almost entirely by volunteers, but will be open with library staff offering all services on Thursday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon. Patrons wishing to pay fines, sign up for new library cards and receive reference assistance can do so during those hours. Self service hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 9a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Internet computers will be available during these hours.
Heritage Park Library is opening with a full range of materials for checkout, including popular fiction, high interest nonfiction, books on CD and MP3, DVDs, Music CDs, large print books, magazines, and daily newspapers. There are more than 1,500 items housed at this location, and patrons can request materials from any Henderson Libraries branch to be picked up at Heritage Park. The space also includes six public computer stations for seniors, and computer training classes will be implemented in the near future.
Established in 1943 as a single library in Downtown Henderson, Henderson Libraries operates six locations throughout Henderson. Henderson Libraries cooperates with other public libraries in Southern Nevada, the Nevada System of Higher Education, the Clark County School District and all other libraries around the state to provide quality service for Nevada’s residents.
