Library district partners with several community partners to host fair at Galleria at Sunset Sept. 10
HENDERSON, Nev. – The number of people battling their weight is increasing at a rapid pace as more and more misinformation on health and losing weight is given to the public each day.
To provide the public with good, credible information, Henderson Libraries has partnered with United Blood Services, Southern Nevada Health District, AARP Medicare, St. Rose, Henderson Parks and Recreation, Trader Joe’s, SHIP – Nevada State Health Insurance Assistance Program and Goodnight Pediatrics to host a health fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Galleria at Sunset mall – located at 1300 W. Sunset Road, just off I-95.
The fair will kick off the library district’s 3rd annual 60 Days to Better Health series, a series that includes a number of health-related programs and classes hosted at the Green Valley Library – located at 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway, just off Sunset Road in Henderson and the Gibson Library located at 100 W. Lake Mead Parkway – from September through November. The series will include 20 programs for all ages as well as Spanish programming.
“There is a critical need in our community for the dissemination for legitimate information and education on how to live a healthy life,” said Rachelle Basso, Adult Services Librarian, Green Valley Library. “We have been working to provide this information to the community for the past three years, but there is more work to be done. This is the first year we have paired a health fair with our programming, and we hope it will attract even more people who need it.”
This year’s 60 Days to Better Health series is funded by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), an independent federal agency that grows and sustains a “Nation of Learners,” because lifelong learning is critical to success.
