Business organization states decision based on risk of amending state constitution

HENDERSON, Nev. – The Henderson Chamber of Commerce, which represents more than 1,400 businesses throughout Southern Nevada, announced opposition to Question 3, which will appear on the 2018 Nevada Ballot this November during the general election. Question 3 addresses how energy is regulated in the state.

As the ballot initiative would change the Nevada constitution – rather than by the legislative process – any amendments to it thereafter also would require a ballot initiative passed by voters in two elections, making the slightest change difficult to make, and thus, a primary point of concern for the Henderson Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, the organization seeks to support meaningful, free market choices that give equal footing to all businesses, regardless of size, to which the measure did not address.

Over the last five months, the Henderson Chamber has conducted meetings and research, which culminated this week and resulted in its position on the initiative. The Henderson Chamber of Commerce is the only organization in Henderson that represents businesses of all sizes, industries, and stages on business policy matters.

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce (@HCC_Nevada) is a nonprofit, professional organization committed to advancing the commercial, industrial, civic and general interests of its members providing businesses with marketing and networking opportunities, support resources and legislative representation.
