Website provides information, news, more
LAS VEGAS – HealtHIE Nevada has launched healtHIEnevada.org, an informative website for Nevada’s first statewide health information exchange (HIE), HealtHIE Nevada.
HealtHIE Nevada is a private, nonprofit, community-based organization dedicated to connecting the Nevada health care community by managing an accurate, real-time health information exchange. The website will not provide access to the exchange itself, but does include participation guidelines for health care professionals and privacy information for patients.
The exchange will allow all of a patient’s health care providers to access the patient’s entire medical history quickly and securely from any computer. As a result, health care providers have immediate access to important, sometimes critical medical information at the point of care. For example, an emergency room physician anywhere in the state will be able to view the patient’s, blood tests, X-rays, allergy and general health information that can help the patient receive faster and more appropriate care.
“Information saves lives. When health care providers have access to current, accurate and complete medical information, they can provide a higher level of medical care, including better diagnoses and treatment,” said Deborah Huber, executive director for HealthInsight Nevada. “Statewide health information exchanges are already positively impacting health care in other states. Nevadans, too, deserve this level of care, and we are excited to bring it to them.”
HealthInsight, which manages HealtHIE Nevada and its services, is a recognized leader in quality improvement; transparency and public reporting; health information technology programs; health care system delivery and payment reform efforts; and human factors science research and application.
HealtHIEnevada.org communicates information and news to the statewide medical community consisting of physicians, hospitals, clinics, laboratories, radiology facilities and pharmacies – a number of whom have already signed up to participate in the statewide HIE and are in varying stages of implementation. A full list of health care providers currently committed to taking part in the HIE can be found at http://healthienevada.org/who-is-participating.
Health care providers participating in the HIE pay a usage fee. Once they become fully integrated in the system, they gain immediate access to the medical history of patients with whom they have an established relationship.
The target date for HealtHIE Nevada to be fully functional on a statewide level is summer 2013.
HealtHIE Nevada is a newly incorporated private, Nevada non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to connecting the Nevada health care community by providing real time, secure, and accurate exchange of clinical information to improve the quality and continuum of health care for the patient. Additional support was provided by the other founding members of the HIE: Renown Health, Reno; Dignity Health; Sunrise Health System; the Valley Health System; Nevada Orthopedic and Spine Center; University Medical Center of Southern Nevada; and Healthcare Partners, Las Vegas.
