Scarves, hats, mittens to be given to organizations that help residents in need
HENDERSON, Nev. – Giving back to the community through your local library? That’s exactly what participants are doing at Henderson Libraries. The Gibson Library is inviting crafters to use their talents to help others through its Crafting for a Cause program.
Crafting for a Cause invites patrons to knit, crochet, or loom scarves, hats or gloves. At the time of registration at Gibson Library, 100 W. Lake Mead Parkway, each participant will receive one skein of yarn and a pattern to complete a scarf, hat, or pair of gloves/mittens for men, women and children. Registrants who would like to complete more than one project may do so after completing and turning in their initial project. Completed projects will be donated to nonprofit organizations that provide assistance to residents in need.
“The weather will soon be changing. Many of our patrons, and others in the community, will need warmer clothing that they may not be able to afford,” said Shakita Kirkland, who serves as adult services librarian for the Gibson Library. “The response to our Crafting for a Cause service program has been amazing! There are a large number of people in our community who love to knit and crochet. Gibson Library is providing them with an opportunity to aide those who could use a helping hand and a kind gesture. By banding together as a group of crafters, we will do what we can, together, to create a truly impactful gift.”
Registration began Saturday, Oct. 4. The last day for patrons to register will be Saturday, Oct. 25. Completed projects must be turned in by Saturday, Nov. 8.
