Latin Chamber encourages community to get vaccinated; Latin community has especially low vaccination rate
LAS VEGAS — The Latin Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Consumer Expo, which will provide free vaccinations to all children who want them, this Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Texas Station Hotel & Casino, Ballroom Floor Area, first floor. The Southern Nevada Immunization Coalition is sponsoring and administering the free immunizations.
Last year, more than 700 immunizations were administered. The Latin Chamber hopes to administer even more this year. According to the Centers for Disease Control, only 62.6 percent of children ages 19-35 months have received all of their recommended shots.
The expo is free to attend. More than 100 exhibitors and 5,000 attendees are expected to take part in the expo, which features the Latin Chamber’s community partners, nonprofits, government and social service agencies, and businesses of various sizes.
Shots for Tots, sponsored by United Way, will also have a booth at the expo. While Shots for Tots will not be offering shots at the fair, the organization will be handing out materials, including books in English and Spanish on the benefits of immunizations.
The general public is invited.
