Petty Officer Buchanan to share Navy stories throughout July
HENDERSON, Nev. – Living on an aircraft carrier is an unimaginable adventure for most people, but Petty Officer Buchanan of the United States Navy knows firsthand what it’s like to live at sea.
As part of this year’s Henderson Libraries annual Summer Reading Program, Buchanan will share stories about being in the Navy, living on a huge ship at sea and the Navy’s role in protecting America.
This year’s Summer Reading Program theme is “Make a Splash,” and Buchanan’s tales about living on the water exemplify the theme perfectly.
His stories can be heard on four different occasions during the program. He’ll first be at the Paseo Verde Library on July 6 at 4 p.m. at the Paseo Verde Library – located at 280. S. Green Valley Pkwy. near the I-215. Then at the newly built Gibson Library – located at 100 W. Lake Mead Pkwy. in the Target shopping center at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7. He will again speak on Thursday, July 15 – at 1:30 p.m. at the Green Valley Library – located at 2797 N. Green Valley Pkwy. on the corner of Sunset Road.
A final event is scheduled for July 15 at 4 p.m. at the Malcolm Library – located at 2960 Sunridge Heights Pkwy., just off Seven Hills Pkwy.
The Libraries’ annual program offers incentives for children, teens and adults. The Summer Reading Program lasts from June 5 through Aug. 7. Kids ages 11 and younger will take part in the “Make a splash at your library” reading program, while youth ages 12-18 will take part in the “Make waves” program and adults ages 18 and older will take part in the “Dive into reading at your library” reading program. Themed programs will be offered for all age groups throughout the summer months as part of the program.
