The Nevada Aerospace Hall of Fame conducted its first of two enshrinement events for 2012 at The Landings restaurant at the Henderson Executive Air Terminal, Henderson, Nevada on Nov. 7.
Enshrined posthumously were Randal Henderson, first pilot to fly into Las Vegas, Maury Graham, pilot of first air mail service to Las Vegas, and Jess Harris, the flying sheriff of Elko County, Nevada. 2012 marked the third year NVAHOF has conducted enshrinement ceremonies at the Landings. The aviation-themed restaurant served as an excellent venue to honor those who have contributed to aviation and aerospace in the state of Nevada.
Attending were the family of Jess Harris, friends, and dignitaries. Elko County Sheriff Jim Pitts and Elko County Sheriff’s Honor Guard members TK Haslam and Sean Murphy participated in the Jess Harris enshrinement and presented the Harris family a proclamation signed by all the Elko County Commissioners.
NVAHOF presented the Harris family and Elko county each a replica of the plaque to Jess Harris that will remain on display at the Nevada Aerospace Hall of Fame. Mark Hall-Patton, Administrator of the Clark County museums was emcee for the evening.
Representing the Harris family was daughter Jodi Bedell, granddaughter Debi and husband, Brian Walsh, along with other Bedell family members- Beth, CJ, Darian, Pam, and Tina. Attending dignitaries were Henderson City Councilwoman Gerri Schroder, United Way’s Bob Welling and George Gilbert, Lori Wagner with Digital Films recorded the event. NVAHOF member and noted aviation webmaster Joerg Arnu served as the photographer. Supporting the NVAHOF staff were Roger Andersen of Roadrunners Internationale, NVAHOF members Jim and Jo Ann Barfield, Mike and Deanne Biehn representing the Civil Air Patrol and Commemorative Air Force.
NVAHOF’s second 2012 enshrinement reception, banquet, and ceremony will take place at the Landings on November 17 where Dave Ferguson, Bill Park, Frank Murray, and Robert Bussard will be enshrined. The planned enshrinement of the Air Force Air Demonstration Team, the Thunderbirds is postponed until 2013 when the Thunderbird Alumni Association celebrates its 60th anniversary. Dates to follow.
