New director of research brings experience to NEMIC

Bernett starts job with National Energy Management Institute Committee June 1

Dave BernettFAIRFAX, Va. – David Bernett has been hired as the director of research for the National Energy Management Institute Committee (NEMIC). He will replace Chuck Holt, who held the position prior to being named administrator in December. He will officially take the role June 1.

A native of Pittsburgh, Bernett has been in the sheet metal industry for 28 years, beginning his apprenticeship in 1987 after serving four years in the Marines. As a journeyman, he concentrated on planning and ran jobs as a field foreman. On the union side, he served as an organizer and a business representative. For the last three years, he has served as the business manager/financial secretary-treasurer for Sheet Metal Workers Local No. 12.

The creative process involved in sheet metal work is one often overlooked, but the part of the job he enjoys the most. As a military veteran, he can see why sheet metal work appeals to honorably discharged veterans.

“The unionized sheet metal industry has been on the front-end of emerging markets for years,” Bernett said. “I’m excited to be a part of it in this new position.”

ICB/TABB is a function of the National Energy Management Institute Committee(NEMIC), a non-profit organization jointly funded by the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) and SMART, the International Association of Sheet Metal Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (formerly the Sheet Metal Workers’ International Association). NEMIC identifies opportunities, seeking to create or expand employment for SMART members and programs that assist SMACNA contractors.
