Friends of Henderson Libraries hosts 9th annual Library Tree Lane

Proceeds from Dec. 7 gala reception, silent auction benefits youth services

HENDERSON, Nev. – The Friends of Henderson Libraries will host the 9th annual Library Tree Lane with a showcase of decorated trees and wreaths Thursday, Nov. 15, through Friday, Dec. 7, during normal business hours at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway in Henderson, just south of the 215 Beltway.

A holiday-themed fundraising project, this year’s Library Tree Lane will benefit the Henderson Libraries’ youth services and will feature decorated trees and wreaths for sale, a visit from Santa Claus, drop-in story times for children and a conversation with guest author Kurt Divich, who wrote “Lords of Las Vegas” and “Dream in the Desert.”

The celebration will culminate with a ticketed gala reception and silent auction from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling 702-492-6584. All events for Library Tree Lane take place at the Paseo Verde Library.

“It’s critical to cultivate a love of reading and learning in our children. If that seed is sewn early, chances are much better they will have a lifelong enjoyment of it. That’s why Library Tree Lane consistently benefits our youth,” said Julie Buckley, co-chairperson of the Library Tree Lane Steering Committee.

The 2011 Library Tree Lane raised $27,000 and benefited the district’s teen collection (grades 6-12).

“The community’s generosity impresses us every year. We’re excited for this event,” Buckley said.

The gala reception features a silent auction with nearly 200 beautifully decorated, themed gift baskets, live entertainment, holiday fare and wine. Honorary chairs Kevin and Terri Janison are expected to attend along with the evening’s host Père Noel (aka Santa Claus).

In addition to the showcase and gala reception, a holiday drop-in story time will take place Saturday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. and an arts and crafts “Make and Take” activity will take place from 2:30 to 4 p.m. A visit with Santa will take place Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. All activities are free to participate in. Registration is required for the children’s programs and can be made by calling 702-492-6581.

Following the gala reception, the decorated trees will be delivered to local charities designated by the tree sponsors. Complete details are available at www.hdplfriends.org.
